myricadesign

Myrica Bergqvist, furniture and product designer, born in Uppsala, Sweden in 1974.
Educated at Istituto Europeo di Design in Rome, Italy 2000-2004.
One year at Konstskolan i Stockholm (art school), Sweden 1999-2000.
6 months of welding classes in Tierp, Sweden 1997.

Started my business, myricadesign, in 2005.

Growing up in a home filled with furniture by Scandinavian designers such as Carl Malmsten, Alvar Aalto and Josef Frank together with my five years in Rome’s classical, conservative architecture and Italy’s decadent dolce vita has a strong influence on my designs.
Humor, glamour and the luxury of everyday life together with simplicity can describe my designs and interiors.

My first collection, containing headboards, lamps, bowls and coasters are all made in lasercut acrylic.
The lamps and bowls are handmade.
The choice of material was easy: I wanted a modern and glamorous material with many qualities and use it in a new way, mix it with antique design and use it in a more sculptural way.
In the new collection I continue to use the acrylic, mixed up with other materials, but still focused on patterns.
